About Ironwood Title Group
A North Carolina title insurance agency that explains the policy before it asks for the order.
Who we are
Ironwood Title Group is the trade name of Ironwood Title, LLC, a North Carolina title insurance agency based in Kannapolis. We issue owner's and lender's title insurance policies underwritten by First American Title Insurance Company on residential properties closed by North Carolina attorneys.
The agency is new, but the people running its title desk are not. Together they have roughly 23 years in the title business, much of it spent resolving the defects that hold up closings, such as missing easements and rights of way, boundary disputes, deed errors, unpaid liens and property passing through family estates.
Ironwood Title, LLC was formed in 2026 to do one thing well: issue title insurance on North Carolina home sales and refinances, and make that process easier to understand for the people who pay for it. We are a licensed title insurance agency in North Carolina. Our North Carolina Department of Insurance license number is 300-421-4515. You can check any agency's license yourself through the National Association of Insurance Commissioners' State Based Systems lookup, which the NC Department of Insurance uses for licensee searches. We are not a law firm. North Carolina is an attorney state for real estate closings: the title examination, the legal documents, the recording and the disbursement of funds are handled by, or under the direct supervision of, a licensed North Carolina attorney. NC State Bar, Authorized Practice Advisory Opinion 2002-1 Our part is the insurance policy that sits on top of the attorney's work, protecting the buyer and the lender against covered title problems that the public records did not reveal or that were missed.
Why an agency built around explanations
Title insurance is one of the few closing costs that most buyers pay without ever being told what it is. The national underwriters publish excellent technical material for attorneys and agents, but very little of it is written for a first time buyer reading a Loan Estimate on a phone. Rate manuals are long PDFs. Consumer pages often lead with company history or financial strength rather than the question the buyer actually has, such as whether the owner's policy is required or who chose the title company.
We think a buyer should be able to answer five questions before closing day: what the lender's policy protects, what the owner's policy protects, what each one costs under the filed rate schedule, who normally pays, and whether they can pick their own title insurance provider. Our buyer and seller guides answer those questions with links to the North Carolina Department of Insurance, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the North Carolina State Bar and the statutes themselves.
For attorneys and paralegals, our goal is equally simple. A title order should be easy to send, the requirements in a commitment should be clear, and a question should reach someone who already knows the file. Everything goes to one address, orders@ironwoodtitlegroup.com.
Our affiliation, stated plainly
Ironwood Title Group and 1st Advantage Mortgage Broker LLC (NMLS #2468711), a Charlotte mortgage broker that does business as 1st Advantage Mortgage, are affiliated through common ownership. Because of that relationship, a referral from 1st Advantage Mortgage to Ironwood may provide 1st Advantage Mortgage a financial or other benefit. Federal rules on affiliated business arrangements require that this relationship be disclosed in writing at or before the time of a referral, and that the consumer is not required to use the affiliated provider. 12 CFR 1024.15
In practice that means three things. Every borrower referred by 1st Advantage Mortgage receives a written Affiliated Business Arrangement Disclosure. Using Ironwood is never a condition of getting a loan, buying a home or closing. And if you would rather use another title insurance provider, you should say so to your lender and your closing attorney; nothing about your loan changes. You can read the full statement on our affiliated business disclosure page.
What we will and will not say
- We will show filed North Carolina premium figures through our calculator, with the rate manual's effective date, and we will tell you which parts of a closing bill come from someone else.
- We will not claim to be the cheapest. Premiums for the same coverage come from the same filed schedule.
- We will not publish reviews, ratings or statistics we cannot back up. As a young agency we would rather earn our reviews.
- We will not give legal advice. Questions about your rights under a contract, a title defect or a deed belong with your closing attorney.
- We will not ask you to use us as a condition of anything.
If something on this site is unclear or out of date, email orders@ironwoodtitlegroup.com or call 704-737-7646 and we will fix it. The rate information was last reviewed on October 29, 2026.
How we approach a title file
Every file starts with someone else's work. A North Carolina attorney examines the record and gives a title opinion; we read that opinion against our underwriter's guidelines, ask about anything that looks open, and issue a commitment that lists what must happen before policies can issue. When the attorney reports that the deed and deed of trust are recorded and the old liens are paid, we issue the final policies.
That sequence sounds routine, and most of the time it is. The value of a careful agency shows up in the files that are not routine: a payoff that was never cancelled of record, a name that does not match across two deeds, an easement nobody mentioned, a prior owner who died before the property was sold. In those files our job is to tell the attorney early, in writing, what First American Title Insurance Company needs to see, so the closing date is not the day the question is first asked.
Plain language is a policy, not a slogan
Buyers sign a lot of paper at closing. The owner's policy is one of the few documents that keeps working for them years later, so we want them to know what it is before they pay for it. That is why this site explains coverage, exclusions, filed rates and the right to choose a provider in ordinary words, and links each statement to the agency, statute or form it came from. If a page here ever disagrees with your policy, the policy controls, and we would like to hear about it so we can fix the page.
Where we are, and where we are not
We are based in Kannapolis, in Cabarrus County, and this site covers properties in North Carolina only. We do not provide legal advice, run closings, hold closing funds or choose closing attorneys for anyone. Those are the attorney's role in North Carolina.
